INTERVENTION 1

I did an experiment. The first one is on fly of trousers and zippers, which is needed by humans of daily life. From my life experience, when pulling a zipper, I can’t instinctively open the zipper or button. In addition, in the process of learning clothing making, I was also taught that traditional clothing design, pants zipper and fly have the direction of male left and female right.

My interviewee is a female right-handed person. She shared her feedback. Because of the zipper direction, she would use her left hand to open the zipper in the left direction, but it was not intuitive.

This time the two jackets are zipper directions for men’s and women’s clothing. The feedback of the tester is that the women’s clothing is more comfortable when they are buttoned, and when the men’s clothing is buttoned, the first instinct is She uses her right hand but needs to change her intuitive direction because of the opposite direction.

Reflection

The result of intervention is that the use of female left-handed zippers on women’s clothing is counter-intuitive, while male left-handers have no effect. After testing with a neutral zipper, I found that both hands feel comfortable in this way.

However, during my testing process, I wore 3 different fly pants, but because of the size problem, it was inconvenient for everyone to try them on, so I decided to make a three-layer zipper model to increase the number of interventions.
